From dog whistle-ridden campaign ads on TV to racist jokes published as political cartoons in major news outlets, this rhetoric has become commonplace at a time when hate crimes are soaring and we need true unconditional solidarity.

Criticize policy, not identity. Do better.

You can vehemently disagree with a political figure and not resort to xenophobia.

It may get likes, but it’s never worth the greater, lasting harm of normalizing rhetoric “othering” a marginalized group. Stopping hate starts with ending casual perpetuation of racist stereotypes.

This is something I’ve thought about after spending two years staffing Asian American political candidates at the height of anti-Asian hate crimes.

Despite their differences, one thing was clear: people leveraged xenophobic rhetoric against them to elevate their own candidate.

Reminder - David ran a historic, progressive challenger campaign for Congress last year. He won 47% in the general election, one of California’s closest Democrat vs Democrat races ever. He took $0 in corporate money and ran a 100% grassroots operation. Definitely one to watch 👀

Last June, @surajpatelnyc’s campaign evolved into a fight to count every vote when the BOE invalidated thousands of votes for reasons beyond voter control.

Today we are once again seeing a dire need for change in how the BOE adapts to new voting methods, like mail-ins and RCV.
