Iranians are not props in a geopolitical chess game. They have agency. These protests are not “Israeli-led” just because Israel opposes this deeply antisemitic regime. If however you do support this regime and dismiss the protests as some Israeli-American project then you are erasing Iranian voices which have been calling for freedom last 46 years.

Almost every major uprising - including Iran 1979, South Africa 1990 and the Arab Spring 2011 - involved outside actors trying to influence outcomes. That doesn’t mean the protests were NOT organic or legitimate. The Islamic regime in Iran constantly invokes foreign plots precisely to avoid its own accountability.

Official papers - released today - show Israeli fans were banned from Birmingham because "elements of the community in the West Midlands [wanted] to arm themselves."

But the police hid this, invented evidence to support a decision they had already taken and then lied about it.

Instead of dealing with the racist extremists in Birmingham who were threatening violence, they lied about the reasons, blamed the Israelis and claimed the Jewish community supported it
