ओ जेरूसलम!

आदतन ऑक्यूपाइड फ़िलिस्तीन (इसे इज़रायल भी कहा जाता है) की ख़बरें देख रहा हूँ. ज़ायोनिस्टों के आपसी और मामूली झगड़ों को लेफ़्ट-राइट और गुड-बैड आदि आदि की बाइनरी में पेश किया जा रहा है. यह सब बेमतलब है. मतलब होगा, तो भी मतलब नहीं बताया जा रहा है. यह ज़ायोनिस्टों के विभिन्न फ़िरक़ों की रस्साकशी है. ऑक्यूपाइड लैंड पर रहने वाले क्या लेफ़्ट-राइट बतियायेंगे!

संसद में बीबी की सरकार बच गयी है. सुप्रीम कोर्ट के मुँह में जाब लगाने का प्रयास अभी रोक दिया गया है. ख़ैर, यह अच्छा लगा कि जेरूसलम में आज सबसे बड़ा प्रदर्शन हुआ है. जेरूसलम की तस्वीरें और वीडियो देखते हुए उस ग़ज़ब शहर के बारे में फिर सोचने लगा. जेरूसलम सिंड्रोम फिर हावी हुआ.

उम्बर्तो इको ने लिखा है कि जेरूसलम की महिमा भी उसकी एक समस्या है. हजार साल पहले मुकद्दसी ने लिखा कि जेरूसलम सोने का एक जाम है जिसमें बिच्छू भरे पड़े हैं. अमोस ओज कहते हैं कि जेरूसलम बेहद कामुकता से भरी एक स्त्री है जिसके हाथ प्रेमियों को मरोड़ कर मार देते हैं, एक भयानक विधवा है जो अपने यारों को तभी भकोस लेती है, जब वे उसके साथ सहवास कर रहे हों.

जीसस ने कहा कि 'ओ जेरूसलम, जेरूसलम, तुम उन पैगंबरों की हत्या कर देते हो, उन्हें संगसार कर देते हो जिन्हें तुम्हारे लिए भेजा गया था.' जीसस के सलीब पर लटकाये जाने के साठ साल बाद उनके संदेशों को प्रचारित करनेवाले संत स्टीफेन ने यही बात जेरूसलम के लोगों के सामने कही, 'ओ अकड़ी गर्दनवाले लोगों, क्या कोई ऐसा भी पैगंबर हुआ जिस पर तुमने अभियोग नहीं लगाया?'

जीसस की मत्यु के सौ साल बाद उनके भाई माने जानेवाले भले आदमी जेम्स को भी पीट-पीट कर मार डाला गया.

जूडिया की पहाड़ियों में बसा जेरूसलम दुनिया के सबसे पुराने शहरों में से एक है और पांच हजार सालों की निरंतरता ने इसे एक मिथकीय मौजूदगी बना दिया है. कहते हैं कि यह शहर धरती पर भी है और जन्नत में भी. धरती पर है, तो यहां भयावह हिंसा, अय्याशी, लूट और झूठ का कारोबार रहा है; जन्नत में है, तो पयंबरों और पवित्र संदेश देनेवाले जेरूसलम से गुजरते रहे.

तीन महान धर्मों की हकीकत, कल्पना और सपनों का केंद्र भी है यह शहर, और उनके बोझ से दबी एक त्रासदी भी.

दुनिया के ज्ञात इतिहास में हमेशा अहम रहा जेरूसलम आधुनिक युग के उपनिवेशवाद, युद्ध, समाजवाद, पुरातत्व, प्रोपेगैंडा, लोकतंत्र, मानवतावाद और कूटनीति जैसी बीमारियों का भी शिकार हुआ. बीते हुए कल और घटित हो रहे आज से अगर जेरूसलम को हटा दिया जाए, तो दुनिया के इतिहास में बस कुछ पन्ने और कुछ फुट-नोट्स बचेंगे.

जेरूसलम हमेशा रहेगा क्योंकि वह धरती पर भी है, और जन्नत में भी…
