The Hon’ble Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) of India visited the Office of the Director General of Audit, Defence Services (DGADS), Pune on 28 July 2026. This was the first visit by the Hon’ble C&AG to the Pune office since its establishment in 1954.

During the visit, the Hon’ble C&AG reviewed the functioning of the office and appreciated the quality of work carried out by the officers and staff. He commended the initiatives undertaken in data analytics and underscored the importance of integrating domain knowledge with advanced data analytics to enhance the effectiveness and impact of audit.

Highlighting the growing significance of research and development, the Hon’ble C&AG provided guidance on how to strengthen audit in this area and stressed the importance of audit playing a constructive role in facilitating ease of doing research while ensuring accountability and effective governance.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Rina Akoijam, Director General of Audit, Defence Services, Pune, Shri Vishwanath Singh Jadon, Principal Director and Secretary to the C&AG, Shri Avinash Chavan, Director of Audit, Smt R. Rajarajeswari, Dy Director of Audit and all officers of the Office of the Director General of Audit, Defence Services, Pune.

During Constituent Assembly debates, Dr Ambedkar was of the view that CAG is probably the most important officer in the Constitution of India and he extensively argued for independence of CAG for an effective oversight.

We owe it to our children and grandchildren that the scarce resources are put to best possible use and are most effectively used for welfare of the poor and needy. CAG has a very important role in this.

Audit engagements provide a unique opportunity of gaining deep understanding of system and place you in a good position of suggesting improvements. Governments will take serious note of advice made by an institution like CAG.

India has undertaken significant responsibility to address global climate change challenge and environmental protection. I have been informed that CAG has taken measures to build capacities in the area of environmental audit. For our future this is a very welcome step!
