@StevenGrahamTWS Thank you so much for organising this monumental project. I’ve been lurking and learning on PWO for a few years now, glad to see it be a success like this!
Definitely a more refined list than 2016 or 2006.
@DeansCanon 2024 neck-fucked 25-year veteran Danielson, vs 1989 GAB 24-year veteran Terry Funk, who is hell-bent to destroy Bryan’s neck instead of Flair’s. Make it “I Quit” fwiw.
Venue, promotion- Hammerstein Ballroom (Manhattan Center), 1997 ECW.
@Springbreakthru@ElHijoDelSimon I’m not sure I get the point of your exercise, tbh. It’s like saying, “imagine this Marvel fuckfest was directed by Martin Scorsese”. I would think it was a random old man in the Marvel director’s chair we’re suddenly and collectively mistaking for Scorsese for some reason.
@mikewwm8 Gable/Ludwig clearly has its moments, but it suffers from typical WWE style pacing, and the interference spot where they couldn’t even get the cardboard table to break the first time, were definitely flaws IMO. Overall, it was a very well-told ode to classic apuesta violence.
@mikewwm8 and progressing to more modern Panther-esque llave towards the finish.
I think it balances old-school lucha brawling with the more sophisticated modern stuff, and doesn’t seem indulgent in telling a grander story beyond two men’s hatred for each other.
@mikewwm8 This match is timeless because it is a painting of lucha history. Both wrestlers present the urgency of the fight through progressively sophisticated holds/pin attempts to defeat the opponent, starting with old-school lucha holds like the Gory special, camel clutch etc. (2/3)

@clare_4th_burn@Badtakejustin .. but Bryan’s résumé is nearly unmatched. Also dismissing him as just a “workrate guy” doesn’t work in light of his Yes Movement and Kofimania stuff (although nowhere near Austin’s peak). However, I would have neither Bryan nor Austin in my Top 5.
@clare_4th_burn@Badtakejustin Danielson wasn’t the platonic ideal like Austin. His stuff is messy, sometimes cosplay-ish, even self-indulgent. But his madness provided a wider range of classics in different styles (vs Rush, Levesque, Sabre Jr., etc.). I have Austin above Bret and Shawn… (2/3)
@clare_4th_burn@Badtakejustin The GWE list is based on in-ring résumé only. Stuff like drawing power, mic work, etc. play a minimal role. Austin is better at translating his intangible charisma into in-ring action. Everything he did post-injury and superstardom served to remind you that he was THAT GUY. (1/2)
