Glimpses from the first-ever North East Coordination Committee meeting held today at Indira Bhawan.

AICC in-charges, PCC presidents, IYC leadership and State Youth Congress leaders from Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, and Sikkim attended the meeting.

Discussions focused on issues in the North East like unemployment, racial discrimination, peace and harmony, and the promotion of culture and sports, while also strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.

It's past midnight, 2 a.m., a deliberation starts in the Parliament on the taking over of the administration of the state by the Union Government while miles away the people in that forsaken state are in deep sleep tonight!

A long day in Parliament ...I wish, a modicum seriousness and respect for the suffering people is accorded...

In the face of a critical and enormous challenge to the very existence of a people, if a person who holds a responsible political position is truly committed to the cause of the land and its people, to ensure the dignity and well-being of its denizens, and if s/he were to have an iota of statesmanship, that person would push for and pursue a BIPARTISAN effort to deal with the challenges.

Even as the people have been subjected to atrocious humiliation and tragedy, it's only a Machiavellian politician who would do everything, including the partisan posturing of blaming his political opponents (this or that party or past governments) or seeking to intimidate or threaten them to silence, to hold onto power rather than dealing with the challenge.

When even a newly born baby can't be saved in our own democracy, where shall we go now?
