As an engineer, I can hold my own against a history student when it comes to military warfare. I can discuss Dostoevsky’s exploration of human freedom, morality, suffering. I can take a walk with you and discuss Kafka’s absurdity of human existence. I can spend an entire evening over cha discussing Machiavelli and political realism.

But a humanities graduate can’t necessarily turn around and discuss the application of amorphous silicon waveguides for switching in optical networks.

That’s the difference.
