@eatonphil Also, on the storage side of things, I assume the file system will have to maintain redundant copies of each block (otherwise availability will be reduced compared to a single node). This will result in writes amplification, which translate into high network bandwidth for writes.

@eatonphil This way you are only scaling the storage, but you are not scaling any compute or memory. Even if the compute is not a concern, more memory might be needed to accommodate for bigger buffer pool.

@ifesdjeen @vicozoh Rust is definitely a good choice for a modern database implementation. But from my limited experience with rust, anything that requires modeling non-trivial data structures is very hard to express, so might be not the best language for teaching.
