BREAKING | 17 KILLED IN WEDELA TAVERN SHOOTING
Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for eight unidentified armed suspects following a deadly shooting at a tavern in Extension 3, Wedela, West Rand, on Saturday night.

Police say the suspects arrived at around 21:30 and opened fire on patrons outside the tavern before entering the premises and continuing to shoot.

The suspects were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols. They allegedly searched some patrons and stole their cellphones before fleeing in two unidentified vehicles. Two vehicles were also set alight.

Police confirmed that 17 people — 13 men and four women — were killed, while 15 others sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to medical facilities.

The motive remains unknown.

Police have opened 17 counts of murder, 15 counts of attempted murder and two counts of malicious damage to property.

Major-General Feroz Khan is seeking to testify in camera when he appears before the Madlanga Commission on Monday, 28 September 2026.

Khan’s application, dated 18 September, asks that proceedings, transcripts, recordings and related documents concerning evidence led against him on 7 and 9 July be protected from public disclosure.

His legal team would be allowed to attend, while Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga would determine who else could be present.

MATLALA TO REJOIN 13 CO-ACCUSED IN R228 MILLION MEDICARE CASE

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his two companies are set to rejoin the 13 other accused in the main Medicare 24 Tshwane District corruption case.

The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court has postponed Matlala’s matter to 29 September 2026, when he is expected to return to the Pretoria Regional Court.

Matlala’s case was previously separated after he indicated that he intended to enter into a plea and sentence agreement with the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC). He later decided not to proceed with the agreement.

The case involves allegations surrounding the irregular awarding of an approximately R228 million contract to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company owned by Matlala.
