His name was Arun Khetarpal.

He was born on October 14 1950 in Pune. His father Brigadier M L Khetarpal served in the Indian Army.

He studied at The Lawrence School in Sanawar, then joined the National Defence Academy. He was commissioned into the 17 Poona Horse regiment in June 1971.

He had been an officer for six months when the war began.

In December 1971 India and Pakistan were at war. The Battle of Basantar became one of the fiercest tank battles fought on Indian soil since independence.

On December 16 1971, the day India and Pakistan signed the ceasefire instrument, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal’s squadron was holding a critical position near Shakargarh in Punjab.

Pakistani forces launched a counterattack with a superior number of tanks. Arun Khetarpal’s squadron engaged them as tanks around him were destroyed or disabled one by one.

His own tank was hit and he was wounded. His commanding officer ordered him to withdraw.

He refused.

He stayed in his damaged tank and continued engaging the enemy, knocking out Pakistani tanks at close range.

A second Pakistani shell hit his tank. He was killed.

He was 21 years old.

His tank had stopped the Pakistani advance. The position held.

Arun Khetarpal was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honour, posthumously. He remains the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra in independent India.

His father Brigadier M L Khetarpal collected the medal on his behalf.

It is said that when Pakistani General Iftikhar Khan heard about Arun’s refusal to withdraw, he said, “Destroy the tank but save the boy.”

The boy did not let them.

CBSE परीक्षा परिणाम में भयंकर हेर-फेर हो गई जिससे देश के लाखों बच्चे और उनके माता-पिता सदमे में हैं।

और मोदी जी? हमेशा की तरह - न जवाब, न ज़िम्मेदारी, न शर्म।

जिस कंपनी COEMPT को यह ज़िम्मेदारी मिली, वह पहले Globarena के नाम से तेलंगाना में 2019 में यही कारनामे कर चुकी है।

नाम बदला - पर नीयत वही, फितरत वही।
इतिहास सबको पता था, फिर भी ठेका दिया गया। ऐसी कंपनी के हाथ में 18.5 लाख बच्चों का भविष्य सौंप दिया गया और किसी को फ़र्क़ नहीं पड़ा।

यह गलती नहीं - यह सोचा-समझा षड़यंत्र है।

कुछ ज़रूरी सवाल हैं:

- COEMPT को CBSE का ठेका क्यों और किसके कहने पर दिया गया?

- कौन-कौन से नियम और प्रक्रिया दरकिनार करके इस कंपनी को ये ठेका दिया गया?

- COEMPT पहले Globarena के नाम से विवादों में घिर चुकी है, ये CBSE को क्यों नहीं पता चला? Background checks क्यों नहीं किए गए?

- COEMPT प्रबंधन और मोदी सरकार के बीच आखिर क्या संबंध हैं?

हम मांग करते हैं कि इस पूरे घोटाले के असली दोषियों को सामने लाने के लिए स्वतंत्र न्यायिक जांच और SIT का गठन तत्काल किया जाए।

CBSE के Gen Z साथियों - आपकी मेहनत, आपका भविष्य, कोई चुरा नहीं पाएगा। हम इस साजिश की तह तक जाएंगे, और इस भ्रष्टाचार को जड़ से उखाड़ फेंकेंगे।
