משלחת מיוחדת של ניצולי הפיגוע בשגרירות ישראל בארגנטינה מקיימת ביקור בישראל בהובלת משרד החוץ, וקיימה פגישה עם שר החוץ גדעון סער.

כזכור, במהלך הפיגוע הנורא שהתבצע במרץ 1992, פוצץ מחבל מתאבד טנדר תופת בחזית שגרירות ישראל בבואנוס איירס, פיצוץ שהביא לקריסה מלאה של הבניין, לרציחתם של 29 בני אדם (בהם דיפלומטים ועובדים ישראלים, עובדים מקומיים ועוד) ולפציעתם של מאות. מי שיזמו, תכננו וביצעו את הפיגוע הרצחני הזה היו איראן וחיזבאללה.

משלחת הניצולים מורכבת מ-12 איש, כולם עובדים מקומיים ארגנטינאיים אשר הועסקו בשגרירות על ידי משרד החוץ בעת הפיגוע, וחלקם נפצעו בו. כל המשתתפים איבדו בפיגוע קולגות וחברים טובים, ומדובר בטראומה המלווה אותם עד היום.

במהלך המפגש עם הניצולים העניק השר סער תעודות הוקרה והערכה לניצולים על תרומתם למדינת ישראל. השר סער הודה להם גם על תרומתם לשמירת הזכרון ומסירת העדות לאורך השנים.

This week, Israel welcomed survivors of the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, a terrorist attack carried out by Iran and Hezbollah that murdered 29 people.

Foreign Minister @gidonsaar thanked the survivors for their service to Israel, their resilience, and their decades-long commitment to keeping the memory of the attack alive.

Israel values its relationship with Europe, and believes in comprehensive, honest, and open dialogue. But dialogue cannot mean one side dictating political positions to the other, especially on issues at the heart of our existence.

We spoke about the importance of the ongoing and deepening ties between our peoples.
We also discussed the need to safeguard the Christian minorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We've arrived exactly where this was heading.

The Israeli FM has cut contact with the EU's top diplomat - not over policy disagreements - those are normal in diplomacy. Because of an unretracted comparison of Israel to apartheid South Africa.

Kallas' response? Reaffirming the two-state solution and condemning illegal settlements. Fine - that is EU policy. But she still hasn't denied the apartheid remark. Sa'ar noticed. So did everyone else.

Calling Israel, the only democracy in the region - one that grants full citizenship to its 20% Arab minority - an "apartheid state" is not EU policy. It is a libel. And no country takes that lying down.

The EU's official position does not include the apartheid libel. Kallas should have said so from day one. The longer this goes unaddressed, the more European credibility in the Middle East erodes - and with it, any meaningful role the EU might play in getting to that two-state outcome we all say we want.

With all due respect, even in your remarks here you refrain from denying or condemning what has been attributed to you and published publicly. That speaks for itself.

To the best of my knowledge, the statements attributed to you regarding “apartheid” do not reflect the position of the European Union.

The matter is simple: if you did indeed make these vile and defamatory statements, stand behind them.

If you did not make them, deny it.

Until this matter is cleared up, my decision will remain unchanged.
