30 minutes of exercise boosts our cancer-killing white blood cells:
- A group of 20 breast cancer patients used a stationary bike for 30 minutes at their preferred resistance and blood samples were taken before, during and after.
- During exercise, the number of cancer-destroying, cytotoxic T cells and NK cells increased, whilst cancer promoting cells decreased or stayed the same.
- Interestingly, the mobilisation of the white bloods was linked with lactate concentration, meaning the more intense the exercise, the greater the result.
- It’s not known whether the increase in these cells were able to infiltrate the tumour area, but still supports the benefits of exercise to help fight cancer.
