Complex Rehab Technology isn’t mass-produced—every wheelchair, seating system, and component is built as a custom solution for one specific person. That’s the work we are proud of: quality products designed around real medical and functional needs so people with disabilities can live healthier, more independent lives. On CRT Manufacturer Day, I’m sharing why that custom process matters. Learn more at https://t.co/QyK4frv4Ot

Contact your US Senator asking for their support for S.247- The Choices for Increased Mobility Act!
S. 247 — The Choices for Increased Mobility Act needs the US Senate to pass this important legislation this year. The House of Representatives has already passed its version of the bill. We need everyone to reach out to their Senator's office and ask them to support this bill. We have been working on this bill for five years, and this is our best chance to get it passed.

Day 2 of CRT Awareness and we recognize the Complex Rehab Technology clinicians. My role is to complete a thorough functional evaluation—identifying medical needs, goals, and what equipment will actually maximize independence—then document why that CRT is medically necessary. I partner with CRT providers so the people I serve can get the technology they need.

The Department of Labor just updated Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, and it's going to negatively impact disabled workers. Let’s talk about it.
This new regulation ends and undermines several disability affirmative hiring actions that were previously required by DOL for all employers that receive federal contracts, as a condition of recieving federal funds.
Now, federal contractors are no longer required to work towards a goal of a workforce with at least 7% of disabled workers. That matters a lot, since the federal government is the largest employer of people with disabilities, including through contracts -- now those opportunities, specifically made for disabled candidates, can disappear.
Ending self-disclosure programs will make it much harder to accurately track data about federal disability employment, making it impossible to identify and address barriers.
And the new policy means some federal contractors will no longer be held accountable for complying with anti-disability discrimination law.
This post and the statement in our bio get into the specifics, but these new regulations are part of a massive effort by the Department of Labor and the federal government to end the major gains we've made towards disability employment.
Suffice to say: AAPD opposes and condemns these changes, and will keep you posted about other policies like it. We know that disabled workers contribute meaningfully to their workplaces, and employers that champion disability inclusion have better profits, productivity, and employee loyalty. No government policy can ever take that away.

@SecKennedy@SecKennedy, what about #dme companies? Yes, those are the providers that responded to deliver oxygen, nebulizer, ventilators (life support) to patients during #COVID_19 Saving lives and millions in hospital stays. What are THEIR incentives? Reimbursement keeps dropping, so????
A reminder that 40% of home medical equipment providers (the folks making sure people in GA&NC have oxygen at home) either sold their businesses or went out of business because of bad government policy.
AND that providers in rural areas get paid LESS to provide these services.
