E O Hoppé
The Canal, Manchester, 1926
Hoppés photographs remind me of Trevor Grimshaw's work, maybe a little Maurice Wade too, which must be why I love them so much 🖤
😭 Absolute classic sketch from Harry Enfield & Paul Whitehouse’s BAFTA-winning BBC series.
Harry and Paul do a brilliant parody of BBC Question Time: the clichéd audience questions, the sweaty nervous bloke in the jumper, the host’s withering put-downs, panelists waffling absolute nonsense… and all the timeless British political b*llocks in one perfect sketch. 😂
Still painfully accurate years later.
4 June 1977. Scottish fans caused damage to the pitch and the goals at Wembley while celebrating a 2-1 win over England. The match has been called “a Woodstock moment” for a generation of 1970s football fans north of the border especially those who could boast: “I was there.”
The Dulwich College Fascist. As for the 60s or 70's, he'd probably be in jail. A slug, complaining about freedom of speech. Two-tier system? Looking at the events in #southampton, The Police seemed laid back.
Really sorry if I'd normally reply to you and haven't today, it has been a bit mad on here. The good news is that decency still prevails, and is found in some unexpected corners of this cesspit. A final thought before zeds, Farage isn't the answer to any question that seeks answers in achieving progress and unity. He won't win; even he knows that. Goodnight.
@paxangloceltae That said, I too share your frustration. Criminality knows no racial boundaries. I would often cross the street to avoid people who belonged to my white British background. #Southampton
@paxangloceltae The BTP has probably had staff cuts since 2010 through to 2024. Remember the banking crisis. Everyone was affected by this, apart from the bankers and the industry. Your point appears to be that I'm a Brit and I'm in the minority, therefore I am exposed to criminality.
Farage has done untold damage to the British economy by being instrumental in Brexit; enormous damage to British society by inflaming ethnic divisions; and incalculable damage to the probity of British politics by countenancing obscene levels of funding from disreputable sources.
@Drawski5@wales_steve It was Martin Peters who worked in insurance. Was Hurst the manager of Chelsea for a short spell? Jack Charlton was the most successful manager from that team. Bobby tried at PNE. It did not go well. Bally loved it, but appeared ill-suited to management.
A sub-Antarctic sunrise a century ago. I have cleaned-up this beautiful paget plate which was photographed in South Georgia by Frank Hurley - official photographer on board Shackleton's ill-fated ship 'Endurance'.
Paget Plates were an early colour glass-plate process and this is not colourised.
