“Alex Walker’s cinematography is a silent accomplice in this dread. The house is shot like a place of worship—clean lines, empty halls, soft whites that feel increasingly sterile, even sinister. Every frame is deliberate, every shadow earned.“
“…a secluded retreat offering a highly ritualized form of assisted suicide…” Does House Of Abraham disturb Kent Hill?

@avalonpod Great content as usual. Definitely a problem saying Siri outloud. I was pleased you stopped doing that with the previous episode, but now you're doing it again. Have you considered simply raising your wrist to trigger Siri? That way you bypass the need to actually say Siri
Some (uncomfortable) truths here at 5:30 AM on a random Sunday.
1) U.S. car market is a mess. EV demand no where near where proponents said it would be. Autonomy confined to a handful of geofenced areas where a thing called winter doesn't exist. Waymo vs. Tesla fan fighting is on one hand funny but on the other hand boring.
2) Chatbots are a complete mess. People don't want to have long-winded chats with their computers that ultimately amount to a lot of nothing (in addition to serving lies, falsehoods etc.).
3) AI mania continues to hit us in waves. Depending on the week, there are new winners and losers (only exception being Apple which consensus has basically written off - similar to what happens with every other market cycle).
4) Most people don't know what they are talking about. Once you realize most people don't know what's going on and what they are talking about, the world starts to make a lot more sense.
@gaghyogi49 The trapezoid is the pour sprue from the molding process. they would normally sand it smooth before painting. There are photos from the auctions that show this detail
@neilcybart That culture would definitely clash with the idea of dress up. Here in Austin, it seems everyone is dressing up and going to some Halloween event regardless of age or having children

When the Apple Weather app goes down for a few hours, some people call for Tim Cook's resignation saying Apple's corporate culture has gone downhill.
And yet when millions of Windows machines crash thanks to OS design choices that allowed a third-party software vendor to even be in a position to cause machines to crash (while Microsoft's main competitor worked to address such shortcomings on its own OS years ago), simply saying Microsoft deserves blame is met with pushback.
Have we lowered the bar for Windows that much over the years?
@TrekCore@FactoryEnt@FactoryEnt you guys realize this is a negative post about your tricolor offering right? $800 for something that looks nothing like the actual props is not a good thing when the @thewandcompany can do perfect TOS replicas at a much lower price.
Of course a good produced by a human worker is much better than one produced by AI. But it's also much more expensive to produce, and capitalists seek to minimize input costs to maximize shareholder value
The result is the "enshittification" of everything

Our dear dear John Pilger has left us. He was one of the greats. A consistent ally of the dispossessed, John dedicated his life to telling their stories and awoke the world to the greatest injustices. He showed great empathy for the weak and was unflinching with the powerful. John was one of Julian’s most vocal champions but they also became the closest of friends. He fought for Julian’s freedom until the end.
“We are all Spartacus if we want to be”, he wrote in his last published piece. This was John, challenging us until the end. Let’s always seek to rise to the challenge. Thank you, dear friend.
