MPs will today debate from 4.30 PM the Petition against the cruel increase to the minimum income requirement rules signed by over 100,00 people.
A love only for the rich policy is completely unacceptable. We all deserve to fall in love and to be loved - so let’s keep love alive
@cursedconnector I've just nerd sniped myself with this one, scouring mouser and DigiKey for half an hour. If they do exist, you've reached a new level of cursed.
I’ve just signed the petition to STOP the increase to the income requirement for family visas to £38,700
Most people in UK don’t make that per yr.
This policy punishes those who fall in love with someone with a different nationality. Boll**** to that!

@PeterWalker59 EU Citizens do not require any level of minimum income in order to bring their spouses into the EU. If you're married to a citizen, you don't need a blue card. You just show up. In the UK, the British citizen partner now needs to earn £38k to bring their spouse over.
Imagine this: you're a British citizen living abroad. You fall in love and decide to marry. You're earning a decent wage, perhaps as a school teacher. You decide that you want to come home to the UK with your family. Now you're banished from your own home.

@PeterWalker59@13sarahmurphy@IanDunt Your reply is completely disingenuous. This policy is about limiting spouses and children of British citizens from living in the UK. The equivalent is not a work visa like the blue card. The equivalent is a permit for the spouse of a union citizen, which come with no such strings
If they go ahead with this, it will be unconscionable. Unconscionable. Not just preventing Brits from coming home with a foreign partner, but actively breaking up British families *who already live together in the country*. https://t.co/pfxcxjK9Wl
My daughter will no longer be able to come back from America and live with her US husband in the UK
Thank you @RishiSunak
The UK government: keeping families apart
@Erinium It was 18k for us this year, but we have no idea if they are going to grandfather in people who are already here (knowing the tories, probably not). It's a horrible rug pull in any case.
@Joanna__Hardy It isn't just people coming from abroad to work. British citizens with foreign spouses will now have to earn double the minimum wage in order to live with their families. The spouses and children of British citizens should not be punished for this government's failings.
@MarcOxford@ColinYeo1 No, it refers to spouses and children of British citizens, where the British citizen partner needs to earn that amount. It's incredibly discriminatory.
@ColinYeo1 This is a total scandal. Not one MP has currently asked about this in the house. They've also not made any remarks about the people who are already here on family visas which need to be renewed after 2.5 years.
The Tories kicked off an open consultation (see link below) on reforming retained EU employment law.
Deadline: 7 July. Please spread the word!
The guidance provided is extremely rose-tinted. I'll highlight some key issues in the rest of this thread.
