A bill in the Iowa State Senate was introduced seeking an expansion of its economic growth attraction program with a goal of luring an NFL franchise, specifically the Chicago Bears.
“While Illinois and Indiana squabble over this issue, we are ready to get off the sidelines and into the game."

As we grow older, “loss becomes the primary condition of living,” Nick Cave says. “That doesn’t mean you’re in a hopeless, grief-stricken state all the time; it just means that you carry a deeper understanding of what it is to be human.”

The Twins' deadline work reminds me so much of the '93 Padres/Fire Sale. Because of ownership issues, unloaded big payroll obligations. Added prospects. Joe Ryan is Andy Benes, @AndyBenes40 the starting pitcher the Padres kept. Byron Buxton is to the Twins now what Tony Gwynn was to the Padres then -- the one legacy player retained. Tough work for the front office. Out of those trades of Sheffield, McGriff, Hurst, the Padres got Trevor Hoffman, Brad Ausmus, other longtime big-leaguers.
