I was at a function and met this guy through a mutual friend. I came to know that he works for the social media team of a national political party. I asked him about the recent fake news being circulated by the party’s leaders regarding Independence Day.

What he told me was shocking.

He said that yesterday, the entire IT cell was under fire after they failed to defend their top boss’s stand on Vande Mataram. They were given strict orders to divert attention from the issue. So, they downloaded old videos, posted them, and muted the conversations so they wouldn’t receive any notifications.

I asked him if they weren’t afraid of legal action. He replied that if FIRs were filed against them, they would be seen as valuable to the Congress. He said this was how one leader eventually got an MP seat after spreading fake news about a Chief Minister’s wife.
