I reiterated Jordan’s steadfast position against the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. This is the unified Arab position. Rebuilding Gaza without displacing the Palestinians and addressing the dire humanitarian situation should be the priority for all.
I am becoming more and more reminded of the USSR: both the way in which official language is being emptied of even tangential relationship to truth, and the official smirk that says "We both know that I am lying, and there is nothing you can do about it".
Thanks to @jimsciutto@CNN for asking excellent questions and allowing me to bluntly call out how the Biden administration has been impotent diplomatically, while continuing to fund and arm Israel to prolong the conflict in the region.
The worst of all worlds.
biden, harris and trump are all more solidly pro-israel than any other g20 government, us ally or not.
globally, the americans are the outliers on this issue.
Jordan's FM Ayman Safadi on Friday responded to Netanyahu's claim Israel was surrounded by enemies by saying '57 Muslim-Arab countries want peace; within the context of Israel ending its occupation and a Palestinian state.'
This is pretty simple. If you don't want someone to do something, you don't give them the means to do it. One must therefore conclude the US government does not object to what Israel has been doing for the past year.
Recipe for an improved U.S. Middle East policy: 1) listen carefully to PM Netanyahu's speech to Congress. 2) Do the opposite of whatever he recommends. This would be better for the US and Israel alike.
People need to realize Israel/ Gaza is not just a "one issue" thing. Or just a foreign policy issue.
It encompasses a multitude of litmus tests for America around free speech, journalist freedom, American militarism, policing, protest, foreign interference, and yes, racism.
Bibi speech described a reality that doesn't exist. Lying about cutting off access to food. Lying about civilian casualties. Avoiding responsibility for 10/7 security failure and diplomatic failure to bring hostages home. Seeking applause for unachievable military objectives.
If somebody was doing to Israelis what the IDF is currently doing to #Gaza, @TheAtlantic would run a story a week demanding that the US intervene to stop it and that the ICJ, ICC, and UNSC condemn it. And they’d be right.
Historic decision in the @UN General Assembly!
Norway is proud to have co-sponsored a strong resolution strengthening Palestine in the UN & calling on the #UNSC to reconsider the matter of Palestine’s membership.
This is an important milestone towards a two-state solution.
No rush, really, it's not like a report on whether Israel is using American-made weapons in violation of American and international law has any particular bearing on current events or anything https://t.co/x3W9pGGWvb
