@TheChiefNerd It isn’t that odd. Virchow’s triad says that 3 risk factors for clotting are injury, venous stasis, and hypercoaguability. Without knowing his genetic risk for hypercoaguability, we can assume a pro football player (injury) on a long flight (stasis) meets 2 of the 3 criteria.
