On August 5, 1966, The Beatles released their seventh studio album, 'Revolver,' which is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most innovative albums in the history of popular music. The album marked a significant use of studio technology by the band and had a profound impact on other musicians and bands of the era.
In the United Kingdom, the album's 14 tracks were gradually distributed to radio stations in the weeks before its release. In North America, Revolver was reduced to 11 songs by Capitol Records, with the omitted three appearing on the June 1966 LP Yesterday and Today.
Music journalist Carol Clerk describes Revolver as having been "decisively informed by acid", following John Lennon and George Harrison's continued use of the drug LSD since the spring of 1965.
Remembering Stuart Sutcliffe, the #Beatles original bass player and close friend of John Lennon, who was born in Edinburgh on this day 23 June 1940. He would have been 86 today. Stu tragically died at the age of just 21 in April 1962.
