"Eighteen years ago, when my daughter Lily was diagnosed with a brain tumor, I knew nothing," said Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) writer, Trish Adkins. "I guessed that brain tumors in 14-month-old babies were rare. I knew this diagnosis would devastate us, but I didn’t know if her tumor was “cancer” or even really understand how cancer worked. I didn’t know there were treatments and, if there were treatments, if they would leave Lily severely disabled. I didn’t know there were other families like ours, some just down the hall in the PICU, facing the same grim, terrifying diagnosis.
And I didn’t know if my daughter would survive." #BrainTumorAwareness

Share this post to raise awareness for kids with brain tumors during #braintumotawarenessmonth. 🎗️
Did you know that a decade ago, brain tumors became the leading cause of childhood cancer death while survival rates for the most common forms of leukemia improved to nearly 90%? Treatment options for childhood brain tumors have advanced, but survival rates remain below 10% for some fast-growing high-grade tumors.
This is why research is so important. If progress is possible in leukemia, it is possible in brain tumors. And you can help.

This week's featured childhood cancer hero is Amara Dias!
Amara is a feisty, funny, bold and bubbly little girl. In March 2021, when Amara was just shy of 18 months, her parents noticed a tremor in her left leg. Eventually, Amara was diagnosed with opsoclonus myoclonus syndrome and neuroblastoma. After years of treatment and surgeries, plus relearning how to do things like crawl and walk again, Amara was able to start Kindergarten! While doctors are checking symptoms that have recently resurfaced, Amara is enjoying school and being free from treatment!
