Don’t use skepticism as a thinly veiled excuse for inaction or remaining in your comfort zone. Be skeptical, but for the right reason: because you’re looking for the most promising option to test in real life. Be proactively skeptical, not defensively skeptical.
If you’re confused about life, you’re not alone. There are almost eight billion of us. This isn’t a problem, of course, once you realize that life is neither a problem to be solved nor a game to be won.
If you are too intent on making the pieces of a nonexistent puzzle fit, you miss out on all the real fun.
The heaviness of success-chasing can be replaced with a serendipitous lightness when you recognize that the only rules and limits are those we set for ourselves.
So be bold and don’t worry about what people think.
They don’t do it that often anyway.
I’m going to propose that you develop an uncanny ability to be selectively ignorant. Ignorance may be bliss, but it is also practical. It is imperative that you learn to ignore or redirect all information and interruptions that are irrelevant, unimportant, or unactionable. Most are all three.
Lifestyle design is based on massive action—output. Increased output necessitates decreased input.
Most information is time-consuming, negative, irrelevant to your goals, and outside of your influence.

My wife and kids are my priority in life
So much so, that all other “priorities” added up together don’t even come close
But in order to prioritize anything, you can’t just ignore the other things
If I decided to spend every waking hour doing nothing but playing with my kids, we would end up on the street. They would resent me (and I would resent myself) for not working hard to create a good life and legacy for them. Not a good strategy to prioritize family.
On the other hand, if I spend every waking hour working “to create a better future for them”, I’ll blink, that future will be here, they’ll be moved out, and I won’t even know who they are anymore. They will resent me for never being there for them. Not a good strategy to prioritize family.
Figuring out the optimal way to make something a priority in life is very difficult. But one method I’ve learned that helps significantly is viewing that priority through the proper lens: time.
My real priority isn’t to have fun with them today. My real priority is to have successful adult children that actually enjoy spending time with me. Kids who want my grandkids to be around me. A wife at 80 y/o who still laughs at my jokes even though she’s heard them a thousand times.
With the proper lens of time applied, it helps bring the proper balance of the day to day into focus.
Don’t waste minutes. Spend my day the way I want to spend my life. Produce quality work every day. Bank quality time with the people I want by my side at my end.
Viewing each day as a microcosm of an entire life keeps priorities in check, and helps with minute-by-minute decision making about what should be sacrificed - and what should never be sacrificed.
