The Federal Ministry of Finance welcomes the confirmation by global index provider FTSE Russell that Nigeria's capital market will be reclassified from "Unclassified" to "Frontier Market" status, effective from the open of trading on Monday, 21 September 2026.
The decision marks Nigeria's return to the global Frontier Market universe, nearly three years after its exclusion in September 2023, when persistent difficulties in capital repatriation and foreign exchange execution made the market inaccessible to international investors.
The reclassification follows sustained improvements in foreign exchange liquidity, capital repatriation and market accessibility, and reflects the cumulative impact of the Federal Government's macroeconomic and structural reform programme.
The reclassification is an important validation of Nigeria's reform trajectory and a foundation for the next phase of the country's capital market development. It is a meaningful signal to global capital that our market is open, orderly and improving.
It reflects years of disciplined work across government and the private sector to restore confidence in our economy. We see this as a milestone, not a destination. Our ambition remains to build a capital market that is deep, liquid and competitive enough to earn Emerging Market status in the near term.
The Ministry commends the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian Exchange Group, the Central Securities Clearing System, and all capital market operators and stakeholders for their sustained collaboration in achieving this outcome. Their coordinated efforts spanning regulatory reform, market infrastructure modernisation and investor engagement have been central to restoring Nigeria's standing among global index providers.
Looking ahead, the Federal Government reaffirms its commitment to working with market regulators and institutions to deepen liquidity, broaden participation and strengthen investor protections, with the medium-term goal of positioning Nigeria for progression to Emerging Market status.
The Ministry will continue to support policies that enhance the depth, transparency and global competitiveness of Nigeria's capital market as a key pillar of the nation's economic transformation agenda.
Signed:

Folagade Banks brought King Sunny Ade on board for Mama Deola's Wedding promotion! No one has been able to feature KSA in a movie, not to mention content, in the last 30 years!
α»mα»! There are levels to this thing o
521,783 people paid to watch football last weekend, and not in the (English) Premier League. In the three divisions beneath it.
At an average of Β£30 a ticket, that is about Β£15.6 million before anyone bought a single pint, in a pub or inside the stadium. And there is a football pint economy too.
Then come the trains and buses to the ground. The flights, if you factor in football tourists. The pubs before and after. The shirts, the scarves, the programmes, the food inside the stadium, the drinks. Betting.
Behind all of it, the club staff, the security, the logistics, an entire payroll.
One weekend. Three divisions. One country has built a thriving industry out of people simply loving their team. These numbers aren't even close to the monster that is the Premier League.
We are as football-mad as they come, yet we earn almost nothing from it.
The Premier League is back today. Whenever you watch it, understand that we could be building a semblance of it back home, but we are happy to let our football be run by those who simply don't get the point.
I created an AI Smart Glass to help blind people walk without a cane or a guide π
But this is not like the smart glasses people are used to seeing
Because this Glass combines AI, sensors, and GPS to help the user detect things in front of them, avoid obstacles, and know their location
But the most amazing thing is if the user gets lost, the GPS tracking system can help locate where they are from anywhere, and then send the location to the phone of the person taking care of them via WhatsApp or Email π²
And now I am further developing it to a new level of AI + Voice, so it can speak with the user and also help them understand their surroundings
I have put the video showing how it works completely in the comment. π₯

Today, at the directive of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Information, Budget and Economic Planning held a press conference to engage Nigerians on some of the most important questions around the recent economic reforms.
We addressed the issues citizens are rightly asking about: fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, rising government revenues, public debt, external reserves, the use of public resources, cost of living and poverty, infrastructure and public services, and what improving macroeconomic indicators ultimately mean for the average Nigerian.
Economic reforms are not an end in themselves. The goal is to build a more stable and productive economy that creates jobs, supports businesses, attracts investment and, ultimately, improves the living standards of all Nigerians.
We recognise that the transition has been difficult for many households. We also believe that citizens deserve clear explanations of the choices made, where the gains from the reforms are going, what results are emerging, and what remains to be done.
The conversation is anchored on facts, transparency and accountability. Please visit https://t.co/DoO6AB0i4z to engage with this scorecard in details, good faith and with an open mind.
Thank you for believing in our country despite the imperfections. Together we will build the Nigeria of our dreams.
#SustainingStability. #AcceleratingGrowth. #ImprovingLives.
Governor Adeleke should have waited a week before re-endorsing President Tinubu. That way, Peter Obi and his Obidients would have claimed the Adeleke victory as their own. You must wonder why they didnβt field any candidate in yet another major election.
The general elections are six months away. A herd that does not field candidates in off-cycle governorship elections somehow expects to win a national one on the back of that same unseriousness.
Of all the possible scenarios of 2027, be glad as a Nigerian citizen that none of them will end with this lot as our countryβs governing group.
