वियतनाम युद्ध में फसलों को झुलसाने वाला केमिकल HERBICIDE 2,4-D भारत के खेतों में खुलेआम हो रहा इस्तेमाल: रिपोर्ट

अमेरिका ने वियतनाम युद्ध में एजेंट ऑरेंज (जिसमें 2,4-D मुख्य केमिकल था) का इस्तेमाल जंगलों को नष्ट करने के लिए किया था। आज वही 2,4-D भारत के खेतों में इस्तेमाल हो रहा है।

यह केमिकल मधुमक्खियों को मार रहा है, जिससे फसलों का परागण प्रभावित हो रहा है। इससे पूरा ईकोसिस्टम और खाद्य सुरक्षा को खतरा है, जबकि कंपनियां मुनाफे की वजह से इसे बढ़ावा दे रही हैं।

WHO की IARC ने 2,4-D को “संभावित कैंसरकारी” (Group 2B) घोषित किया है। इसमें डायोक्सिन पाया जाता है जो कैंसर पैदा कर सकता है। विकसित देशों ने इसके खतरनाक फॉर्मूलेशन पर पाबंदी लगा रखी है।

डॉ. अनुपम वर्मा कमेटी ने 2020 में 2,4-D पर पूर्ण प्रतिबंध की सिफारिश की थी। सरकार ने ड्राफ्ट ऑर्डर भी जारी किया, लेकिन अक्टूबर 2023 के अंतिम Insecticides Prohibition Order में इसे चुपचाप बैन लिस्ट से बाहर कर दिया गया।

कीटनाशक कंपनियों ने आर्थिक नुकसान का हवाला देकर विरोध किया। सवाल उठ रहा है कि कैंसरकारी माने गए केमिकल को आखिर किस दबाव में बैन से बचाया गया, जबकि किसानों और उपभोक्ताओं की सेहत दांव पर लगी है।
