Managed democracies hold elections. The elections are real in the sense that votes are counted.

They are managed in the sense that the range of acceptable outcomes has been narrowed, in advance, by money.

By who can run.
By who gets covered.
By which ideas are treated as serious and which are treated as radical.

The voter chooses. But the menu was written before they sat down.

This is not a conspiracy. It does not require coordination in a room.

It requires only that the people with capital understand their interests and act accordingly, while the people without capital are given identity to fight over instead of economics to organize around.

Republic. Managed democracy.

The difference is whether the people who set the menu are accountable to the people choosing from it.

‼️Moscow’s main oil refinery will not resume operations until at least next year

The Moscow Oil Refinery, which supplies more than a third of the fuel consumed in the Moscow region, halted operations after Ukrainian drone strikes on June 16 and 18.

According to Reuters, both primary oil processing units were damaged.

The refinery is expected to remain out of service for at least six months and, at best, may not return to operation until 2027.

The Moscow Oil Refinery is one of the largest oil refining enterprises in Russia, with a processing capacity of 11 million tons of crude oil per year.

The plant supplies about 40% of Moscow’s gasoline market and up to 70% of the capital region’s demand for fuel and aviation kerosene.

Analysts estimate that reconstruction costs could reach $1 billion.
