An ICE officer shot and killed a man during a targeted enforcement operation in Houston on Tuesday morning.

According to federal officials, the shooting occurred just before 7 a.m. near Canal Street and Wayside Drive. Investigators stated that the suspect, identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, was a Mexican national in the country illegally. Officials allege Araujo attempted to evade arrest, rammed into an ICE vehicle, and tried to run over an officer before the agent opened fire.

The FBI is leading the ongoing investigation.
