I had a patient who wanted to cabut multiple teeth and buat gigi palsu.
We worked on a treatment plan and I came up with a quotation of RM580 for 6 teeth removal and an acrylic denture at RM680. Total quotation of RM1180
He requested for it to be lower but I couldn't. So I suggested for him to cabut gigi at a gov central clinic to save cost.
So he went off to do that and came back to me after a 2-3 months. It only cost him RM2 per tooth and he came back to do his gigi palsu with me because (according to him) the waiting list at the gov clinic was too long 😅
If public healthcare wasn't affordable, my patient wouldn't have been able to do his dentures with me.
I can't speak for my med colleagues but dental public healthcare should exist as general disease control for the population.
Private clinics are there to reduce the burden of public healthcare and cater to patients after- hours and for speedier treatments.
Keep public healthcare public and cheap.
Part penting is the family support him! THE PARENTS, BROTHER, SISTER. Lepas tu kemain banyak comments "Apa kena mengena perbuatan adik dengan kakak?" dekat IG kakak dia
Saya kehilangan seorang pesakit baru2 ni. Beliau muda lagi. Umur baru 30 thn, lelaki. Obese. Ada kencing manis sejak berusia 21 thn lagi. Suka minum air berkarbonat.
Working > 12 hrs = Cruel
Working for 24 hrs = Inhumane

Mcm mana lg analogy nk bagi faham decision maker ni
Saya faham je apa yg Dr Luqman cuba sampaikan berkenaan kes kecemasan/bukan kecemasan di ED. And based on the replies and QRTs, saya pun faham apa yg public dan netizen maksudkan.
Betul, mostly akan pergi ED sebab ada masalah. What is not urgent to us may seem urgent to someone else. We shouldn't blame patients for that, and it is our duty to treat them. Remember, "kami sedia membantu". And regarding 'kes kecemasan vs bukan kecemasan', perhaps continuous education on health literacy to the public is crucial here.
But if we take a look at the bigger picture, saya rasa root cause tetap lah sebab masalah understaff. A well functioning healthcare system requires an adequate HCW-patient ratio. Hence by increasing staff allocation, we can reduce individual workload therefore improving its overall efficiency. So tak kira lah ramai mana pun patients kat ED, tak kira lah sama ada kes tu "urgent" atau "tak urgent", ada je HCWs yg cukup utk attend semua.
