IBADAN PROTESTERS BLOCK IWO ROAD, DEMAND SWIFT RESCUE OF ABDUCTED ORIIRE PUPILS AND TEACHERS
Peaceful Protesters Block Part of Iwo Road, Demand Swift Rescue of Oriire Pupils-Teachers, Observe Prayer on Main Road.
Traffic was partially disrupted along the busy Iwo Road axis of Ibadan on Monday as protesters staged a peaceful demonstration demanding the immediate rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The protesters, converged on a section of the road, carried banners and placards calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent steps towards the release of the victims and tackle the growing wave of insecurity in the state.
During the demonstration, participants also observed prayers on the road, seeking divine intervention for the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers, as well as an end to kidnapping and other criminal activities across Oyo State.
The protesters listed their demands to include safer roads and communities, protection for farmers, traders, students and families, as well as the restoration of peace, security and justice.
Some of the protesters expressed concern over what they described as increasing cases of kidnapping in parts of the state, warning that residents now live in fear due to the activities of criminal elements.
They urged the Oyo State Government, security agencies and relevant stakeholders to intensify rescue efforts and strengthen security measures to prevent further abductions.
The protesters maintained that the swift rescue of the abducted Oriire pupils and teachers should remain a priority, insisting that every effort must be made to guarantee the safety of residents and restore public confidence in the state's security architecture.
PRESIDENCY DISMISSES PETER OBI’S CALL FOR PRESIDENT TINUBU’S RESIGNATION AS A DISTRACTION AND POLITICALLY MISPLACED
The Presidency has dismissed calls by the National Democratic Party's Presidential Candidate for the 2027 Elections, Peter Obi for President Bola Tinubu to resign as politically misplaced, undemocratic, and a distraction from national development.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency says "Peter Obi’s latest comments calling for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation, based on a comparison with the British Prime Minister’s voluntary exit, are not only misplaced but also reflect a selective and distorted view of Nigeria’s realities since 2023."
The statement argued that recent election victories recorded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State and several senatorial districts reflect continued public support for President Tinubu and his administration.
According to the Presidency, despite inheriting serious security and economic challenges, the Tinubu administration has recorded notable progress in tackling insecurity, including the rescue of kidnapped victims, the elimination of terrorist leaders, and intensified security operations across the country.
The Presidency also highlighted improvements in the economy, citing sustained GDP growth, increased oil production, stronger foreign reserves, rising government revenue, and renewed investor confidence as indicators of positive economic reforms.
On infrastructure, the administration pointed to ongoing projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, describing them as evidence of President Tinubu's commitment to long-term national development.
The statement further noted achievements in the education sector, including the introduction of interest-free student loans and the absence of prolonged university strikes during the current administration.
Addressing power sector concerns, the Presidency said President Tinubu never promised 24-hour electricity for all Nigerians immediately but has taken concrete steps to improve electricity supply through the implementation of the Electricity Act, expansion of prepaid metering, and increased investment in alternative energy solutions.
While acknowledging the challenges posed by the high cost of living, the Presidency attributed some economic pressures to global developments and maintained that the administration remains focused on implementing reforms aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
The Presidency concluded that Peter Obi's call for President Tinubu's resignation was politically motivated and failed to acknowledge the progress made by the administration in security, economic management, infrastructure development, education, and power sector reforms.

WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY 2026: FIRST LADY OLUREMI TINUBU URGES NIGERIANS TO PROTECT RIGHTS AND DIGNITY OF THE AGED
First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to do more towards protecting the dignity, rights, safety, and wellbeing of senior citizens, whose wisdom, sacrifices, and contributions have helped shape our society.
In her message marking the World Elders Abuse Awareness Day 2026 with the theme “Beyond Awareness: Making Elder Abuse Prevention Work,” the First Lady notes that
elderly citizens deserve to be respected, protected, and cared for, rather than leave them to endure physical, emotional, financial, and psychological abuse.
She says as population ages and the challenges of aging begin to emerge, the society must strive to honour and care for the elderly citizens by strengthening systems of care, community support and social protection to ensure that no older person is left vulnerable or abandoned.
CLARIFICATION ON PRIMARIES RESULTS CONCERNING SENATORS
The office of the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has made clarification on reports in some sections of the media claiming he promised to secure senatorial tickets for lawmakers who lost their party primaries.
In a statement his media adviser Eseme Eyiboh said the reports are false as Akpabio did not make or authorize any such promise.
According to the statement, what Akpabio actually told his colleagues was that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress is working to resolve issues from the primaries and that the final list of candidates will be released in line with party rules.
The Senate President stressed he remains committed to party discipline and will not interfere with APC’s internal processes.
The statement also addressed comments about a possible Senate probe into the military over recent security incidents noting that oversight is a constitutional duty, and that Akpabio believes now is not the time for a public inquiry.
The statement further emphasized that open hearings could hurt troop morale as forces battle terrorism and banditry therefore it favours closed-door engagement with security agencies.
The statement urges the media to seek clarification before publishing.
The official match ball for FIFA World Cup 2026 has been manufactured by Adidas and is called the 'Trionda', which translated from Spanish means "three waves".
It features a red, green and blue colour scheme that pays homage to the three host countries - Canada, Mexico and the United States. Adidas claim that its "connected ball technology" will be helpful in relaying data to VAR, with AI helping to make decisions.
The adidas TRIONDA features a state-of-the-art 500Hz motion sensor chip that sends precise, real-time ball movement data to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system 500 times per second.
Unlike the 2022 World Cup ball, the TRIONDA houses a rechargeable battery that powers the sensor and lasts up to 6 hours of active gameplay.
