SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa’s lawyer requested bail, telling court that Rajapaksa had been invited to attend a religious ceremony at the Pothgul Vihara in Hanguranketha on September 26. The lawyer also said Rajapaksa had received an invitation from the Indian government and was expected to travel to India from September 27 to October 1.

After hearing submissions from both sides, the magistrate further remanded Rajapaksa until September 29.
