The ground is not the only factor, the ball cannot touch ANYTHING other than the glove before the fielder has control for it be a catch.

In a force play, everyone on the base must advance.

Because the bases were loaded, it was chaos here. Home plate runner was out, then it was ran to 3rd and they were out, and the lagging person on plate 1 was out (bc 2 ppl cannot occupy same base).
