The word “dupatta” is a Hindi/Pali word which was in existence even before the birth of Islam, forget Pakistan.
Dupatta means “double cloth”. Two rows of cloth joined together is Dupatta. In Tamil it is tuppaṭṭā a cloak consisting of two cloths joined together.
The original inspiration behind the dupatta is the sanskrit “Dvipatta” (द्विपट्ट) which means double door panels, specifically referring to the dual door panels of temples. Patta is reference to size of the panel.
For example, one of the places it is mentioned is in prayers to Goddess Chandika in Kadambari.
Accordingly, while describing the shire of the Goddess Chandika, Baan Bhatt says, “Then the portal to the sanctum sanctorum, a riot of colour and form. She was being illuminated by the entrance, on which there were hanging cloths reddened by lamp-smoke, a row of bracelets made of peacock-throats festooned [over it], a garland of bells closely-set and pale with powdered flour-cakes, which supported two door-panels (kapāṭa-paṭṭadvaya), [studded] with tin lion heads with thick, iron pins in their centers, barricaded with an ivory-rod bolt, carrying [what seemed to be] a necklace of sparkling bubbles that were mirrors oozing yellow, blue and red [light]”.
Ofcourse, what would pakis know, they just like to steal. Even the origin of the word is inspired from temples panel sizes 😂😂😂😂😂😂
