For the second year running Connecticut has the highest rate of heart transplantation in the world at 20 transplants per million population. Twice the national average of 10 transplants per million.
Hartford Hospital was one of only 8 programs in the USA and the only center in New England awarded 5-stars for 1-year heart transplant survival (97.5%) in the most recent report published by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.
Lucky are they who got to train under Prof or simply witness his magic. He made everything look so easy, elegant and effortless. He’d always say: “Truth is beautiful. If it looks pretty, it must work”. He was the ultimate Renaissance artist in an OR. #mentor#livinglegend#GOAT
This is why we commit our careers to heart transplantation. It gives me great joy to see my patient doing so well. His father is a credit to all fathers everywhere.

Wonderful to see a patient I transplanted recovering so well. I was privileged to work with some incredible colleagues whose dedication, bravery and courage in helping patients is unmatched. @yaleHFdoc@DanielJacobyMD @yaleOHTsurgeon @ArnarGeirssonMD.
Heart transplantation is perhaps the most incredible medical intervention of all. We took a risk on a dual organ with one of the most critically ill patients I've ever cared for. Honored to be a part of one of the finest 💓transplant programs in the world https://t.co/f0sbadKH2d
@md_SsAhmad It’s quite simple. In the current era these patients receive a high quality donor heart within days of listing due to their status 1 priority listing. Prior to this they would have to wait much longer.
90% 6-month survival following heart transplantation in patients supported on ECMO after donor heart allocation policy changes in 2018. Prior to this 6-month survival was 75%. Critically ill patients now have exceptional access to heart transplantation

Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 we have performed 26 heart transplants in 2020, which represents a record total for Hartford Hospital. A testament to the dedication of Hartford Healthcare to even its most complex patients under the most difficult circumstances.
