Movie: QUEZON
Director: Jerrold Tarog
Starring: Jericho Rosales

Rating: 5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pag nanuod ka, akala mo nakikinig ka sa mga balita ngayon – the Senate President and the House Speaker fighting against each other.

But it’s not Chiz Escudero and Martin Romualdez fighting. It’s Manuel Quezon and Sergio Osmeña.

There’s so much lesson to learn from this movie that can teach us how to view our current political reality – that most politicians especially the ones on top are cunning chameleons playing a political game while performing and acting in a political theater to compete for the people’s support.

The movie puts Quezon front and center – a masterful but flawed politician who deeply believes in Philippine independence.

But the film technique is also amazing by chopping up the history of Quezon’s life into jigsaw pieces that is so entertaining to watch and easy to digest for anyone – the movie divides Quezon’s life into chapters of VERSUS a certain personality and weaves in and out of such storytelling device.

The acting is superb – Jericho Rosales is so charismatic and lovely to watch. He has the gravitas but the entire cast holds their own.

It’s an ensemble film with Jericho still shining brightly on his own like the titular character Quezon who is always at the center of attention or controversy.

This is a must watch not just for history buffs and film nerds but for all anti-corruption advocates especially in the context of recent events – it will show you how politics works and make you aware if you’re not already.

Catch it in cinemas before Wicked or other movies come and wipe it out. I don’t think watching it on Netflix will do it justice.

I hope this humbles Willie Revillame and other trapos planning to run, who underestimate the voting public and think it's okay to run without a platform.

Apparently, it only costs P300,000 for Chinese nationals to illegally obtain a valid Philippine birth certificate, passport, and driver’s license.

Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian disclosed the matter to reporters on Friday, saying that the information came from his sources within the Chinese community.

“Sinabi nila sa akin na ang running price pala para makakuha ng birth certificate — kasama na [ang] passport, kasama na ang driver’s license is P300,000,” Gatchalian said.

“So merong mga ganon na naglalakad. Magbibigay ka ng P300,000, bibigyan ka nya ng birth certificate, bibigyan ka niya ng passport, bibigyan ka niya ng driver’s license at iba pa. Kumbaga lalakarin [na] lang nila lahat yun,” he said.

Gatchalian’s revelation came after the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) disclosed that it uncovered “close to 200 falsified birth certificates” issued to Chinese nationals from 2018 to 2019 in Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur.

According to the senator, NBI’s disclosure in itself is “very concerning,” which may indicate that there is a syndicate actively lobbying for the issuance of valid Philippine documents to Chinese nationals. | @charieabarcaINQ
