Not to belabour the point but I’m actually still in shock that the grounds for my deportation were making Zionist students feel uncomfortable… not unsafe, no crime but uncomfortable. There is not a more coddled demographic ever. I can’t even fathom what it would be like moving through the world knowing that law enforcement are mobilised for my comfort. Imagine me as a Black Muslim man I could invoke my comfort in order to be protected lol
@pjfred60@1goodtern i think one pertinent conclusion from the likely possibility that covid was a lab leak is that there was a concerted effort to cover it up and next time, there will be as well. more reason we need to take mitigation protocols very seriously. this won’t be the last pandemic.
we have to reckon with our own desire to treat covid like it’s over for the sake of our own convenience. if this is how we treat the current pandemic, how are we going to respond to the next one?
when we’re thinking about the open coverup of the likely possibility that covid came to exist because of lab neglect, how are we going to take care of our communities when we’re almost definitely going to face more man-made pandemics? https://t.co/Z1Z4jkESDc
Ohioans are here in huge numbers AGAIN to testify against the Higher Education Destruction Act (#Ohio SB 1). I'm in the SECOND overflow room‼️
There's a large police presence guarding the main hearing room. Republican politicians are scared of students & teachers 😂 #weak
A tumultuous 24-ish hours since our preprint was released yesterday. I mentioned that this was a fraught issue and I genuinely do understand that people have mixed feelings about the work. I wanted to take some time to respond to some of the concerns and comments that have 1/
Many point to 2020 as the major political moment in the rise of Euro-American fascism in the 21st century - but the actual hastening and rise of it should be taken back to 2001, when we see the introduction of necropolitics, omnipotent surveillance and technologized mass death & displacement as baseline “security” policy.
@thecakelin i don’t mean from you necessarily, rather the OP. whether or not anyone in the group they’re referring to would really consider what they’re saying certainly doesn’t seem to be. i’d love to know if this changes minds or if supporters are generally already CC
@thecakelin i really want there to be more constructive CC forums where we can share the advocacy we do without it devolving into self pity and indignance. the spaces i’ve been in so far had been like that, with people even being hostile to me when i ask things. it’s not friendly or helpful.
@thecakelin yeah, and also, is this kind of content going to change someone’s mind? seems like the target audience is one that’s already demonstrated defensiveness. so i guess it just feels good to say. even to me it initially feels satisfying to read but of course CC folks agree already :/
@thecakelin you’re very right about that, the algorithms definitely boost the most incendiary content. and also, that content does have an impact and shapes the most visible of CC people. which is why i’m not surprised about the OP.
@thecakelin we’re entitled to our hurt. i’ve felt plenty of it. i’ve had my heart broken over and over. that’s activism. that’s been a thing since before covid. our actions still have consequences. if we really want to do advocacy work, we need to build relationships even when we disagree.
@thecakelin i generally get this, but i also get what they’re saying. both are true and also still dancing around the real problem. we’re all hurting each other. minimizers are killing people and CC folks are pushing people away from taking precautions. i’ve done it myself. a lot.
