Afghanistan's Ministry of Higher Education has suspended the operations of seven private universities for one year and revoked the licenses of two others following a nationwide evaluation of private higher education institutions. According to the ministry, inspections conducted during the Spring 1405 (2026) semester identified serious violations and deficiencies at nine private universities. Despite receiving repeated warnings and recommendations, the institutions failed to implement the required reforms. Under the decision, Barlas University in Jawzjan, Rah-e Saadat and Turkistan universities in Balkh, Azhar and Barna universities in Badakhshan, Rashad University in Faryab, and Payam University in Kabul have been suspended for one year. Meanwhile, the operating licenses of Kohandazh University in Kunduz and Khana-e Danish University in Takhar have been revoked. The ministry said the institutions were found to have committed serious violations, including enrolling fictitious students, falsifying attendance records and examination results, failing to teach the ministry-approved curriculum, lacking laboratories and practical training facilities, and operating without sufficient academic and administrative staff. #TOLOnews_English
