I know why this happens and I've talked about it in several videos.

Netflix quite literally makes movies dumb on purpose because they assume you're not paying attention. This isn't a theory, there are leaked memos confirming it. They think you're just putting on the movie as background noise while you do something else like screw around on your phone, so they don't bother with visual storytelling, and instead just rely on blunt and obvious dialog to explain everything.

This movie in particular, Damsel, even has scenes where the main character will narrate what she's looking at to herself so the audience can hear it when they're not looking at the screen.

I'm sure Netflix isn't the only one who does this. Since every movie will eventually make its way to a streaming service, and Hollywood knows that's how 99.9% of the people who will ever see it will watch it, they're all made this way now.

Streaming has literally made movies worse, not just from the standpoint of how we watch them, but in the sense that it actually determines how they're made, down to the writing, acting, and cinematography.
