Cameroonians tried. They went to the polls and voted Biya out of office by overwhelming numbers last October.
After Biya stole the election, Cameroonians took to the streets. Dozens were killed, thousands arrested and are still in prison today. One main opposition leader died while in custody. The winner of the election is in exile in Gambia.
This constitutional change was introduced on a holiday, voted on the next day, by a parliament whose terms expired last year. Of the 380 eligible legislators, only 222 actually voted. (200 in favor - 52.6%). Meaning many many legislators simply didnโt show up.
Biya has changed the Constitution so many times, whenever it suited him, that it no longer means anything. He has turned it into a simple tool for keeping power.
