Artist of the day: Yoshitaka Amano
Born on March 26 1952, in Shizuoka (Japan), Yoshitaka Amano is a legendary artist whose ethereal, dreamlike style has defined fantasy art for decades. He started at Tatsunoko Production in 1967, working on classics like Speed Racer, Gatchaman, and Casshan. In 1982, he went freelance and exploded onto the scene with novel illustrations.
His signature aesthetic blends delicate watercolor, intricate linework, dramatic flair and a mix of Western fantasy with Japanese elegance: flowing fabrics, ornate details and haunting, otherworldly beauty.
