Very saddened to hear of the passing of the generous and large hearted Qamar Ahmad or Q, as we inevitably called him. He helped me a lot on my first tour of England in 1990 where I was a wide-eyed novice on most matters. And I won't forget his emotionally told story of going back to the family village in India, while on tour with Pakistan, where he was warmly received with stories of his father. Always greeted me with a hearty laugh. I have only warm memories of Q and I will be surprised if anyone else has any other. Khuda Hafiz Q Bhai. Salaam.

It's rare to find journalists these days with such a deep understanding and command of their subject. He had incredible knowledge of sports and a remarkable grip on his craft.

Qamar Ahmed, the cricket journalist, broadcaster, and former first-class cricketer, has passed away in Karachi aged 88.

'Q' attended over 400 Tests as a journalist and witnessed Gavaskar's 10,000th run, Hadlee's 400th wicket, Kumble's 10-for, cricket's 1000th Test and its 2000th in 2011. May he rest in peace.

As pointed out before, apart from other differences, Iran and the US have a major difference on how to seek a permanent end to the war.

What I understand is that Iran's Foreign Minister, in a written response to US proposals, first wants to seek an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz.

Talks on nuclear and other issues would come later.

Trump, however, wants an all-in-one deal.

It is said that the US President will chair an important meeting on Monday to respond to Tehran's proposal.
