• Hong Kong – USD 55 (45% lower than Maldives)
• Singapore – USD 50 (50% lower than Maldives)
• Thailand – USD 35 (65% lower than Maldives)
• Japan – USD 30 (70% lower than Maldives)

This means a passenger departing from the Maldives pays significantly more in taxes and airport-related charges than passengers departing from many competing Asian destinations.

While airport development and infrastructure investment are important, maintaining competitiveness is equally important for tourism growth, airline connectivity, and supporting the overall economy.

Just so you understand the situation

Henry Nowak was an 18-year-old university student walking back to his accommodation in Southampton

alone, unarmed, not drunk, after a night out

Then he crosses paths with Vickrum Singh Digwa

Digwa was carrying two blades, a small kirpan under his clothes and a larger Sikh dagger visible in a sheath

Henry sees the blade, starts recording with his phone and asks something like if he is a “bad man”

Digwa walks toward him says he is “a bad man”

- takes Henry’s phone
- a struggle starts over the phone
- then Digwa stabs him
- multiple times

the fatal wound goes 8cm deep

Henry tries to escape, climbs over a fence, collapses onto a car and tells police he has been stabbed

he says he cannot breathe

but Digwa lies and claims Henry attacked him

he also claims Henry called him racist slurs

police believe the wrong person

Henry is arrested, handcuffed for around one minute

before officers realize how serious it is and start CPR

he does not survive

Henry’s father says his son did not die with dignity

and that the way he was treated was inhuman and degrading
