Attempt #13, Uzbekistan: For years, former political prisoner and activist Azam Turgunov has been trying to open an NGO - Human Rights House - in Tashkent. He is a veteran of Justice Ministry's rejections. (Worth noting he is not alone) His appeal was denied today by Tashkent City Administrative Court. His lawyer Sergey Mayorov sees this as a clear signal that the Uzbek government does want an independent rights org.
Convicted for threatening the constitutional order, Turgunov was behind bars 2008 - 2017, including in Jasliq, which is now closed. When he was released, the international community welcomed the news as a concrete step that puts into action President Mirziyoyev’s human rights reforms.

Abdulla Qodiriy is not guilty! The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan has overturned the decision of 1926, when the writer was found guilty in criticism of USSR and sentenced to death. His name is cleared. Another victim of Soviet Repressions found justice. Too late, but still matter.
