I spoke with Prime Minister of Poland @donaldtusk, Prime Minister of the UK @Keir_Starmer, President of the Council of Ministers of Italy @GiorgiaMeloni, and @SecGenNATO Mark Rutte.

Of course, first and foremost, we discussed the Russian drones launched against Ukraine last night that also entered Polish airspace. Incidents with one or two Russian drones had already happened before in NATO’s eastern flank countries, including a few weeks ago in Romania. But this time the number of Russian drones was much larger, the brazenness much greater – the drones entered not only from Ukrainian territory but also from Belarus. And we all equally understand that this is a completely different level of escalation from Russia. There must be an appropriate response.

Donald informed about the consequences and circumstances already established. Debris from Russian drones, including Iranian “shaheds”, was found in many towns and villages. Since last night, our military has been sharing all the information we have, and we continue this cooperation.

There are several reasons for this brazen behavior of Russia, and they are absolutely obvious to everyone. We need to work on a joint air defense system and create an effective air shield over Europe. Ukraine has long proposed this, and we have concrete solutions. We must respond together to all current challenges and be ready for potential threats to all Europeans in the future. Likewise, we need to significantly increase joint funding for the production of interceptor drones. They have already proven their effectiveness.

I offered Poland our assistance, training, and expertise in shooting down Russian drones, particularly “shaheds”. Donald and I agreed on appropriate cooperation at the military level. We will also coordinate with all NATO member states.

Russia is attempting to use the same tactic in Poland as it used before its full-scale invasion into Ukraine: it tests the reaction of the West (not just the EU, but the United States first and foremost).

The more Russia is allowed to get away with, the more brazen the next "test" will be. Predictable historical parallel: this is how Hitler began in Austria and Czechoslovakia.

However, a modern war that is being waged already, is significantly different from the wars of the past.
Drones are used en masse. It's not just the army fighting. Different methods are used in the rear. This is a hybrid war against NATO. For now, Russia doesn't want Article 5 to be used and a direct confrontation. So, it wages a hybrid war and launches provocations.

One of Russia's tactics is inducing panic among the EU population, causing a new migration crisis, strengthening of radical powers and pro-Russian forces in Europe to enforce the narratives about needing to negotiate with Putin.

Today, Ukraine is the leader in fighting against Russia and has the largest and most successful experience.
Ukraine can share our experience, train radar operators, help with creating anti-drone units that work here with high efficiency.

Russian trolls love this excuse right now about “unarmed test drones” so here’s an analogy everyone can understand:

-In the middle of the night you find an intruder in your house.

-They have a gun on them, it’s not loaded but you have no way of knowing.

-They are mapping out your security system and testing response time of the police/security company to your home.

-You chase them out of your home.

Now does it matter the gun wasn’t loaded?

Do you still expect the police to show up?

Do you expect them to still try and find and arrest that person?

Another report from the Commander of our Air Force. We are clarifying all available data and analyzing the details of this Russian strike.

Already during the night, Ukrainian forces were informing the Polish side through the relevant channels about the movement of Russian drones.

At around 00:50 Kyiv time, the first crossing of the state border between Ukraine and Poland by a Russian drone was recorded. At least two Russian drones that entered Polish territory during the night used Belarusian airspace. In total, at least several dozen Russian drones were moving along the border of Ukraine and Belarus and across western regions of Ukraine, approaching targets on Ukrainian territory and, apparently, on Polish territory.

The number of Russian drones that traversed into Poland and penetrated deeply into its territory may be greater than the previously announced figure. According to updated data, around two dozen of Russian drones may have entered Polish airspace during the night. We are verifying this.

Our air defense forces destroyed more than 380 Russian drones of various types. At least 250 of them were “shaheds.” Precise information on the drone types will be determined after an analysis of the debris.

Ukraine is ready to expand our cooperation with partners for reliable protection of the sky. So that we have not only information and intelligence data sharing, but also real joint actions that guarantee security of the neighbors. Russia must feel that Europeans know how to defend themselves.

More information is coming in about the intrusion of Russian attack drones into Polish territory. As of now, it’s known about 8 drones. Increasing evidence indicates that this movement, this direction of strike, was no accident. There have been previous incidents of individual Russian drones crossing the border and traveling a short distance into neighboring countries. But this time, we are recording a much larger scale and deliberate targeting.

Ukraine is ready to provide Poland with all the necessary data available regarding this Russian strike. Ukraine is also ready to help Poland build an effective system of warning and protection against such Russian threats. It is clear that Russian aggression poses a danger to every independent nation in our region, and therefore only joint and coordinated action can guarantee reliable security.

The precedent of using combat aircraft from several European countries simultaneously to shoot down Russian weapons and protect human lives is highly significant. Ukraine has long proposed to its partners the creation of a joint air-defense system to ensure the guaranteed downing of “shaheds”, other drones, and missiles through the combined strength of our combat aviation and air defenses. Together, Europeans are always stronger. Russia must feel that the response to this escalatory step, and even more so to an attempt to humiliate one of Europe’s key countries, will be clear and strong from all partners.
