NEW: Couple seen leading their rottweilers away from their home after the dogs mauled and k*lled a 5-year-old girl.

The incident happened at the couple's $2 million home in Covina, California.

The girl had reportedly been around the dogs, aged 10 and 6, for her entire life.

It is suspected that the girl is the couple's daughter however that information is not yet public.

"She fell. They (the rottweiler and rottweiler mix) immediately started attacking her," said sheriff’s Lt. Steve De Jong.

The girl's father then dove on top of her to shield her from the dogs but it wasn't enough.

The girl was rushed to the hospital with injuries to her neck and head. She didn't make it.

The couple's dogs are a 10-year-old rottweiler, a 6-year-old rottweiler/Weimaraner mix, a 10-year-old Weimaraner and a 4-year-old Doberman.

The 10-year-old rottweiler and the 6-year-old rottweiler/Weimaraner mix were the dogs who carried out the attack.
