🔸We note this, Honourable Minister. However:

1. The affected schools and students fall under your Ministry. Can you realistically bury your head in the sand and ascribe the problem to someone else? Are you not concerned at the adverse consequences of these schools being incapacitated due to a lack of funding and resources? What explanation is being given for this irresponsible failure to pay school fees for BEAM beneficiaries?

2. What is the Ministry of Primary Educatiom doing to avert this crisis or have you shirked all responsibility because the Fund is administered by another Ministry? What are you doing to ensure a solution is arrived at?

3. I am aware that, in 2024, the portfolio committee on Budget, Finance and Economic Development recommended that the administration of BEAM be transferred away from the Ministry of Public Service to your Ministry to reduce bureaucracy. Have you taken any steps to ensure this recommendation is implemented?

🟣The unconstitutional conflation of state and Zanu PF must be condemned by all who are passionate about building a Zimbabwe that works for everyone.

The only “ideology” that should be forced down the throats of elected and unelected officials alike is respect for the Constitution, the rule of law and administrative justice. The shameless opportunism by some who are taking this opportunity to cross the floor and cozy up to a party that has caused mass suffering is regrettable indeed.

The absence of ethical, competent, people-focused leaders is sad to watch.

Namatai is currently detained at Zimbabwe’s Maximum Security Prison. She is not guilty of any offence but is being charged for participating in an alleged protest that happened at a time she was out of the country. Please raise your voice in solidarity with her and over 100 other innocent Zimbabweans who are political prisoners.

ZIMBABWE MUST HAVE PROPER ELECTIONS AND FIX BROKEN POLITICS

Following the discredited, illegal and disputed 2023 General Elections, Zimbabweans have not known normalcy or peace.

As of now, 78 families and a one-year old child are without their loved ones. This is because the 78 political prisoners hold different political views and dared to express themselves and exercise their freedom of association. On the 16th of June 2024, these political prisoners were celebrating Africa Youth Day before being forcibly taken to prison where they remain 45 days later.

In addition, the families of Namatai Kwekeza (a human rights defender), Samuel Gwenzi (Civil society), Robson Chere (trade unionist), Promise Munkuli and Vusimuzi Moyo are without their loved ones for no reason other than their association with wanting a better Zimbabwe, advocating for women, young people, workers and speaking out against injustices.

Robson Chere’s family and friends are faced with the additional burden of fearing for his health given the injuries sustained during his arrest. Robson only wants better for the workers who sustain Zimbabwe.

The family of Bruce Moyo, a young Councillor from Bulawayo is without him because of exercising his political freedom of association as a young citizen and council representative.

Many other people (young and old) are spending nights in the prison cells after being taken abruptly and brazenly for no crime but being targets for simply exercising their constitutional freedom of association.

In Zimbabwe, being an active conscious citizen and being young has become a crime. The citizens, especially the young people, are persecuted for their beliefs and for wanting better lives.
In Zimbabwe, it has been turned criminal to be young.
This assault and onslaught on the citizens is a clarion call for unity across political divide to condemn and rebuke these violations, violence and injustice.

Fellow citizens of @SADC_News and all African countries, this can’t be civilized politics. This is bizarre, abnormal and must be condemned by all progressives across the world.

There was a tree nearby with low V-shaped branches. They lifted my feet up and threw them over the V so that I balanced on the ground with my chained hands.

They picked up logs and sticks and started beating me, focusing mainly on my buttocks. The beating went on forever and finally, my knees buckled. I slumped to the ground. Every time I fell down, the beatings intensified and I would be hung up again.

Tired of hoisting me, they changed tact. I had to march up and down singing a popular MDC song, “Ndezve Change Nero.” Whenever I slowed down, the beatings would start. The singing and marching lasted for about an hour. They called it “rehearsals” for the demonstrations. My captors appeared under an impression that I was the coordinator for the July 31 demonstrations in Bulawayo, and possibly Matabeleland as a whole.

After the marching I had to lie down on the ground, and they took turns beating me. It might sound crazy to most, but at that point I had made peace with the fact that I was going to die. My only concern then was that like Itai Dzamara, missing since 2015, my family would never find my body while living in the cruel hope that one day I would walk through the door.
