the third tribute in my series of drawings celebrating 20 years of AFI's "Decemberunderground"
done in ink & graphite with some PhotoShop enhancements
"Mad Men" was "The Sopranos" for dudes who wore skinny ties and chicks with cat-eye glasses.
"Yellowstone" is "Mad Men" for dudes with mustaches who hang their keys from their belt loop
for anyone that wants to revisit those golden days of πΆ ollldies radio! K-EARTH 101! Los Angeles! πΆ there are some really good playlists that people have put together on Spotify that contain those old songs

didn't grow up in the 50s-60s, but because K-EARTH 101 was always on, i associate that music with so much of my childhood.
On Saturday, i was driving through South Central while Oldies played on the car radio, and it was just such a lovely, nostalgic feeling
i was taking the 110 all the way down, and just when i got off the freeway and onto the PCH, the Beach Boys' "California Girls" came on. Absolutely surreal
inspired by the song "Kiss and Control" off of AFI's "Decemberunderground" album, which turns 20 years old this weekend.
done in acrylic, ink, and graphite
i am not kidding about how bad my memory is.
i watched "The Rocketeer" on the big screen last night, and although i've seen this movie a zillion times throughout my life, there was a moment during the climax where i genuinely though
"how are they gunna get out of this?!"
it's unfortunate that it happened. it sucks that people hit & run like that. but all things considered- this was a best-case-scenario. If i had bought that 'rollpan' there would've been nothing to protect my car from damage. Thanks, auto saftey standards.
so i've been thinking about getting a "rollpan" bumper for my car... essentially it makes the butt look smooth, rather than having the factory bumper sticking out.
i held off on that purchase, and bought the lowering kit instead. well THANK GOD because i got rear-ended tonight
the person took off. and i thought "agh fuck."
but when i got out to assess the damage, there pretty much wasn't any. There's some crackling of the black paint on my car, but the trunk still opens, and you can't tell anything happened.
@Olive_You_ it's always more fun when YOU'RE the client, YOU'RE the only one you're working to please & impress!
We're lucky that our art helps us pay the bills, but it's so much more rewarding when the art is fueling our souls
one of the good things about having a day job and not depending on my art for income is that i ONLY draw what i want.
Before, i would probably feel some pressure to draw something based on "Obsession" because 'iT wOuLd SeLL WeLL'- but i just don't wanna, so i'm not going to
Guillermo Del Toro put it best "you can't fake a boner"
if i'm not excited about something, i don't wanna be forcing myself through it, being miserable the whole time. i want to be passionate and excited about every piece i work on.
don't get me wrong, i'm very good at resisting pressure. You know how many times i've heard "YoU ShOuLd DrAw ArT tHe cLoWn" or "hOw CoMe YoU HaVeNt DrAwN sAbRiNa CaRpEnTeR?" and i'm just like
'nope, not a fan'
