In honor of Juneteenth, I think it’s vital that we prioritize supporting our local and national Black entrepreneurs and business owners.
“Some of the most beautiful things in this world exist because Black people dared to imagine them.” — We The Urban
Therefore,
Support Black art.
Support Black authors.
Support Black businesses.
Support Black joy.
Support Black creativity.
Support Black futures.
Not just today.
Sow a seed in whatever way you can: purchase a product, book a service, share a business, leave a review, refer a friend, or pour back into your community in a meaningful way.
Buy Black today, but let it become more than a moment. Let it become a practice.
And to quickly educate: when people ask why some Black-owned businesses are “so high,” remember that many Black entrepreneurs lack equal access to funding, resources, vendor relationships, and support systems. Pricing often reflects survival, sustainability, quality, labor, and the real cost of operating with limited resources.
“Juneteenth is not just about freedom. It’s about what we choose to do with it.” — We The Urban
The more we support, the more we help Black businesses grow, scale, and become more accessible over time — especially those operating with purpose and not greed.
It starts with us, as it always has.
“If you can, individually, feed and clothe and help yourself, you can, combinedly, clothe and help others.” — Maggie L. Walker
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk and if you’ve made it this far, drop some Black-owned businesses we can support in the Southaven, Horn Lake, Olive Branch, and Memphis areas. 👇🏾
