Joseph Mede (1586β1638) -
"When Christ shall come to judge the world in righteousness, His feet shall stand upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east [Zech. xiv. 4]... From thence as from the most eminent place of the world, shall He rule and govern the nations with the rod of iron, and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel [Ps. ii. 9; Rev. xix. 15]."
"The New Jerusalem descending [Rev. xxi.] doth signify the restitution of that city to a far more glorious estate than ever heretofore... It shall be the metropolis of the whole world, whither the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour [Rev. xxi. 24]... Thither shall the Gentile nations flow to worship the King, the Lord of hosts [Isa. ii. 2β3; Mic. iv. 1β2]."
"The calling of the Jews after the fulness of the Gentiles [Rom. xi. 25β26] shall be as life from the dead... They shall be gathered into their own land [Ezek. xxxvii.], and Jerusalem rebuilt an habitation of God's throne... From that holy mountain shall go forth the law of the Lord in the latter days."
(From J. Mede, The Key of the Revelation; 1627, expanded editions 1643+; Works, pp. 547, 839)
R.C. Sproul (1939-2017) -
"The prophets [of Israel] were immersed in conflict and controversy precisely because they would not accommodate the Word of God to the demands of a nation caught up in syncretism. The apostles were engaged in conflict continuously. As much as Paul sought to live peaceably with all men, he found rare moments of peace and little respite from controversy.
That we enjoy relative safety from violent attacks against us [as the American Church] may indicate a maturing of modern civilization with respect to religious toleration. Or it may indicate that we have so compromised the gospel that we no longer provoke the conflict that true faith engenders."
Itβs not day one of βPride month.β Itβs simply the first of June. And itβs a day βthe LORD has madeβ let us rejoice and be glad in it.β And let us not blaspheme Him by acting as though we have a right to use it for anything other than that which honors Him.
All clear, America?
Watching the β85 World Series on YouTube. I watched it on a small black and white TV on my porch in midtown KC as a young fella. This is the 1st time Iβve watched it in color. Internet perks.
In his opening remarks of Game 1, Reggie Jackson predicted the Royals in 7. Called it.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) -
βIt is perfectly clear that in New Testament times, the gospel was authenticated by signs, wonders & miracles of various characters & descriptions β¦.Β Was it only meant to be true of the early church? The Scriptures never anywhere say that these things were only temporary β never! β¦. To hold such a view as Warfield held is simply to quench the Spirit.β
Deuteronomy 4 is one of the most important theological and eschatological chapters in the Bible. Many tributaries in the prophets flow from its headwaters.
If any who are called Christians are so well satisfied with their moral duties, that they see no necessity of making Christ their only hope, the law by which they seek life will be to them a ministration unto death.
I disagree w/ the claim that Spurgeon didn't engage in expository preaching. Of course, whether one thinks he did or didn't will depend very much on how we define biblical exposition. Verse-by-verse consecutive sermons are a form of exposition, yes, but they're not the only kind.
