@classiclits House of Leaves genuinely got under my skin โ less the scares themselves, more the way the book's structure makes you feel like it's coming apart in your hands. Still the only horror novel I've had to put down to breathe.
@DonLulio I'd argue the label does more harm than the comparisons โ it flattens everything into a FromSoft scorecard before anyone plays it. Would rather see games judged on what their combat actually does.
@DavidJohnButler Nothing brings out the vultures faster than announcing a book. The whole creator economy has a parasitic sub-economy riding on its back โ sorry you had to wade through it.
@EnTrpg93077 A world of lost civilizations and ancient relics is a great sandbox โ the history does half the GM's work before the dice ever hit the table. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
@AuthorDSAllen@AuthorGFAllen Time jumps are one of the best tools a dark fantasy has โ skipping the filler years is usually kinder to the reader than dragging them through all of it. Hope the landing sticks.
@Eva_Burke1 10k words in with a real deadline is honestly the hardest part done. A steady clip gets you to 40k by Christmas โ protect the momentum and it's very doable.
@paul_jkrause October always pulls me back toward the bleak stuff. I'm re-reading The Fisherman right now and it remains the most quietly devastating cosmic horror I've ever touched.
@wtfbrunno Alan Wake 2 alone did more for horror storytelling in games than most studios manage in a lifetime. Pantheon placement earned โ twice over.
@nuhre_ Fall is RPG season. Something about grey skies and early dark makes every backlog title feel like a novel you should've read by now. Right there with you.
@IuliusLore Honestly? More cross-medium spaces at cons โ indie comics and indie prose sharing tables and panels. The audiences overlap way more than either industry seems to think, and the craft conversations would be great.
@SpawnYaardReply Because taxonomy is the fans' love language. 'Soulsborne' means FromSoftware's own bloodline, 'soulslike' means everyone else's โ Elden Ring gets the family name because it's pure From DNA.
@authoradraeanna Nothing shakes off a dry stretch like a big word count day. 1500 words plus a polished chapter is a proper session โ enjoy the momentum. ๐
@ecmegato Cheating? There's no referee in the writing process, just you and the right word. A thesaurus is asking your own brain for what it was already reaching for โ and half the time it sparks a better sentence than the one you started with.
