@PadmajaJoshi
In April 2026, when the CBSE announced that three languages for Class VI students shall be made compulsory and 2 of the three languages shall be native to India, I was one amongst many who welcomed this decision that allows Children to learn multiple languages from a young age, which would help them to broaden their understanding of India’s diverse literary landscape.
In the very same notification released in April 2026, it was explicitly mentioned that the Third language for Class IX children studying in CBSE schools will be made compulsory only from the Academic year 2029-30, which is 3 years from now.
However, on 15th May 2026, the CBSE sent a notification to all affiliated schools introducing the third compulsory language for Class IX students from this academic year, rolling back its previous commitment to make it compulsory only from the academic year 2029-30.
This has come as a shock to many parents, especially those from TN, as their Children have already selected a language of choice in Class VI, and now the revised notification mandates that Class IX students learn 3 languages, 2 of which are native to India, with effect from 1st July 2026. Expecting a Class IX student to learn a new language in a short time will only pressurise children and affect their overall learning outcomes.
I request the Ministry of Education to roll back this notification immediately and to stick to the previous commitment to introduce the learning of 3 languages, of which 2 shall be native Indian languages, for Class IX, from the academic year 2029-30.
NDTV kicks off its Punjab election coverage with an exclusive interview with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
For the first time, Mann answers sharp questions on the fallout from the exit of Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, and other AAP Rajya Sabha MPs. I pressed the Chief Minister on his government’s track record on corruption, drugs, and law and order.
Is Bhagwant Mann calling the shots in Punjab, or is he being remote-controlled by Delhi? Watch our full conversation from the NDTV Nava Punjab Summit—laced with his trademark humor and political satire—here:

#NDTVExclusive | "Embarrassing, but we want fair exam; Probe will reveal lapses" : NTA chief Abhishek Singh speaks to NDTV's @VedikaS on NEET UG 2026 exam being cancelled
Some time back, one of our competitors took out an ad highlighting the fact that they had topped one of the viewership rankings. NDTV had come second that month. But the competition was unwilling to acknowledge NDTV’s growth. So they showed themselves on top, followed by the networks that came third and fourth. NDTV was simply left out of the reckoning.
Some in the team were angry. I was amused.
It reminded me of the oft-quoted adage: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” @ndtv
In a TV industry where every channel claims to be the ‘most watched’, it’s always gratifying to actually be that — THE most watched.
And to dominate viewership on Results Day? Nothing bigger.
Thank you, viewers of @NDTV.
Let’s do more!
Overwhelmed by the positive feedback for @ndtv and @ndtvindia’s #Battleground verdict day coverage.
For 37 years, elections have been part of this institution’s DNA—and it’s good to see NDTV flex its election muscle again. The fact that many of the country’s most important newsmakers chose to speak first and exclusive to NDTV shows they, too, recognise where the viewership winds are blowing.
Live video and website concurrent views—across metrics—have been through the roof. We’re grateful to every single viewer who tuned in.
For Team NDTV, this is just the beginning. There’s a long road ahead. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and the other states beckon.
